Audio Frequency Generator

Generate a short sine tone to inspect speaker or headphone output. Select the frequency and stereo channel, then listen at a low, comfortable volume.

Generate a short test tone

Start with low system volume. The tool starts at 3% digital gain and stops after five seconds. This is not a hearing test or a calibrated sound-level measurement. Stop immediately if uncomfortable. Do not turn up volume to hear very low or high frequencies; inaudible tones can still drive your speakers.

Ready. Set system volume low before starting.

What the tone can tell you

Listen for an audible tone, buzzing, rattling or a channel that stays silent. Compare modest frequencies such as 250 Hz, 1000 Hz and 4000 Hz at the same comfortable volume. Frequency and digital gain describe the generated signal, not the sound pressure at your ear.

Frequency limits

The upper limit is 16 kHz or 45% of the AudioContext sample rate, whichever is lower. Your speakers, headphones, equalizer, hearing and browser audio path influence what you hear. A silent frequency alone cannot identify a faulty device or hearing condition.

One stereo channel is silent

Check system balance, the output device, cables and Bluetooth pairing. Mono audio or spatial processing can mix the channels. Use the headphone stereo test for a guided left/right sequence.

No sound at any frequency

Check mute controls, system output selection and browser autoplay restrictions. Click Play yourself, then try the speaker test. Playback requires Web Audio support and may be unavailable in an embedded browser.

Privacy

Tones are synthesized locally using Web Audio. This tool does not request microphone access, record sound or make a network request.
