A working camera can still produce a poor image. Review the live preview under normal room conditions, then use a snapshot to inspect the details more closely.
Focus and sharpness
Facial features, text and nearby objects should appear reasonably defined. Clean the lens and allow autofocus time before judging sharpness.
Brightness and exposure
The face should be visible without large areas becoming completely black or bright white. Face a soft light source for a fair test.
Colour and white balance
Skin tones and neutral objects should look believable. Strong colour casts can come from mixed lighting or automatic white-balance limits.
Motion smoothness

The active browser stream may use a different resolution from the camera's advertised maximum. Browser constraints, USB bandwidth, lighting, selected frame rate and other applications can influence the mode that is actually delivered.
480p — 640 × 480
A standard-definition 4:3 mode still used by older cameras, low-bandwidth calls and compatibility fallbacks.
720p HD — 1280 × 720
A common widescreen webcam resolution suitable for everyday video calls and online meetings.
1080p Full HD — 1920 × 1080

How Accurate Is an Online Webcam Test?
The live preview comes directly from the media stream supplied by the browser. Resolution, device label, facing mode and reported frame rate are based on the active video track and therefore describe the mode currently exposed to this page.
Actual results can be affected by browser processing, automatic exposure, autofocus, virtual-camera software, operating-system privacy controls and bandwidth limitations.
What This Webcam Test Cannot Measure
It cannot certify colour accuracy, dynamic range, sensor size, bitrate, compression quality, latency, low-light sensitivity or microphone performance with laboratory precision.
The test also cannot repair drivers, unlock a camera blocked by another application or inspect physical lens and sensor damage. Those issues may require device settings, driver tools or repair.
What the Webcam Results Mean
A working webcam should show a stable live picture with suitable brightness, natural colour and enough detail for calls, meetings or recordings.
A dark, blurry or frequently freezing picture may be caused by poor lighting, another app using the camera, browser limits or an outdated camera driver.
