Free Online Controller Test
Xbox Controller Test
Test an Xbox controller online and check live browser-reported input from A, B, X and Y, bumpers, triggers, D-pad buttons and both analogue sticks. The tool runs in a compatible browser with no separate download.
Test Your Xbox Controller Online
Connect an Xbox or compatible controller, press a controller button and use the live tester to check whether the browser receives the expected controls.
- Face buttons
- A, B, X and Y
- Bumpers
- LB and RB
- Triggers
- LT and RT analogue values when exposed by the browser
- D-pad
- Up, down, left and right
- Analogue sticks
- Left and right X/Y axes plus stick-click inputs
How to Use the Xbox Controller Test
- Connect your Xbox or compatible controller by USB or a supported wireless connection.
- Press a controller button so the browser can expose the gamepad.
- Select the controller if more than one is detected.
- Press A, B, X, Y, the bumpers, triggers and D-pad directions one at a time.
- Move both analogue sticks through their range and release them back to centre.
- Compare the live indicators with the physical controls you are using.
What This Xbox Controller Test Checks
The tester reads controller information exposed through the browser Gamepad API. With a standard mapping, it can show face buttons, bumpers, analogue triggers, D-pad directions, stick clicks and both analogue-stick axes.
Exact input availability can vary with the controller, browser, operating system, driver, firmware and connection method.
Xbox Controls You Can Check
A, B, X and Y
Confirm that each face button is reported separately by the browser.
LB and RB
Check the left and right bumper inputs for reliable button presses.
LT and RT
View analogue trigger values when the browser exposes a standard mapping.
D-pad
Check up, down, left and right directions independently.
Left and right analogue sticks
Review browser-reported horizontal and vertical axis movement for both sticks.
Common Xbox Controller Input Mapping
Browsers that expose the standard Gamepad mapping commonly use the following button and axis positions. Non-standard controllers can differ.
| Xbox control | Standard browser input | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| A / B / X / Y | Buttons 0–3 | Each face button activates independently. |
| LB / RB | Buttons 4–5 | Each bumper registers when pressed. |
| LT / RT | Buttons 6–7 | Analogue values rise as each trigger is pressed. |
| View / Menu | Buttons 8–9 | Centre controls register separately. |
| L3 / R3 | Buttons 10–11 | Stick-click buttons activate when pressed. |
| D-pad | Buttons 12–15 | All four directions can be checked independently. |
| Left stick | Axes 0–1 | Horizontal and vertical values respond to movement. |
| Right stick | Axes 2–3 | Horizontal and vertical values respond to movement. |
Wired and Wireless Xbox Controller Testing
A controller can behave differently depending on whether it is connected through USB, Bluetooth or another supported wireless method. If wireless behaviour looks inconsistent, a USB comparison can help separate a connection issue from a control issue.
Browser and Controller Mapping Limitations
This page cannot force every controller into an Xbox layout. Third-party or unusually configured gamepads can expose different indexes, and browsers or operating systems may reserve some system buttons.
A browser test confirms the inputs received during the current session. It cannot inspect every internal hardware, firmware, battery, radio or intermittent controller fault.
What a Good Xbox Controller Test Looks Like
Each physical control should activate the matching browser indicator consistently. Analogue triggers should change smoothly, and both sticks should move through their expected range before returning close to centre when released.
Unexpected movement, missed inputs or the wrong indicator activating is a reason to repeat the test and compare another browser or connection method.
Xbox Controller Not Working in the Test?
- Press a controller button. Some browsers keep gamepads hidden until the user interacts with them.
- Reconnect and refresh. Disconnect and reconnect the controller, then scan again.
- Compare USB and wireless. A wired connection can help isolate wireless problems.
- Try another browser or device. This can help separate browser support from a controller issue.
Controller Input Privacy
Live button and axis readings are processed temporarily in the browser by the tester. The tool does not upload a recording of your controller inputs.
Xbox Controller Test Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Xbox controller test?
An Xbox controller test checks whether a compatible browser can detect controller buttons, triggers, D-pad inputs and analogue stick movement through the Gamepad API.
Does this test work with Xbox Series X and Series S controllers?
Many Xbox Series controllers expose standard gamepad inputs to compatible browsers when connected by USB or supported wireless methods. Browser, operating-system and connection support can vary.
Can I test an Xbox One controller?
Yes, when the Xbox One controller is recognised by your operating system and exposed to the browser through the Gamepad API.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The tester runs in a compatible web browser and does not require a separate Device Tests application.
Why does the page say no controller detected?
Connect the controller, press a button, confirm the operating system can see it and then refresh the controller list. Some browsers do not expose a gamepad until the user interacts with it.
Can I test an Xbox controller over Bluetooth?
Yes when Bluetooth gamepad support is available in your device, operating system and browser. USB can be useful for comparison if wireless behaviour seems inconsistent.
What do the A, B, X and Y indicators show?
They show whether the browser reports those standard face-button inputs as pressed and display the reported analogue value where available.
Can I test LT and RT trigger pressure?
With standard mappings, LT and RT are usually reported as analogue button values between zero and one. The tester displays the browser-reported value.
Can I test both analogue sticks?
Yes. The page shows live X and Y axis values and a visual position indicator for both the left and right sticks.
Can this test detect stick drift?
It can show whether a stick reports movement while you are not touching it, but the dedicated Stick Drift Test provides a more focused drift check.
What does standard mapping mean?
The browser can expose a recognised controller using the standard Gamepad mapping, which gives common button and axis positions a predictable index layout.
Why are my buttons mapped differently?
Some third-party, older or unusually configured controllers may use a non-standard mapping. Browser, driver, firmware and operating-system behaviour can also affect button indexes.
Why is the Xbox or Home button not detected?
Browsers and operating systems may reserve or hide system buttons, so the Xbox or Home button is not guaranteed to be available to webpages.
Does the vibration test work on every Xbox controller?
No. Browser vibration support is optional and not consistently available. The vibration button is enabled only when the browser exposes a supported gamepad actuator.
Does Device Tests store my controller inputs?
The live button and axis readings are processed temporarily in your browser by this tool and are not uploaded as controller-input recordings.
Can I use this test on a phone or tablet?
Potentially. It depends on whether the mobile device, browser and connection method expose the controller through the Gamepad API.
Can a successful browser test prove my controller is fault-free?
No. A successful test confirms what the browser receives during that session. It cannot inspect every hardware, firmware, battery, radio or intermittent fault.
What should I test next?
Use the Gamepad Test for a general controller check and the Stick Drift Test for a more focused look at unwanted analogue-stick movement.
