Free Online Gamepad Test

Test controller buttons, triggers, analogue sticks, directional inputs and vibration directly in your browser. You can also check for stick drift and unwanted input.

Works with compatible USB and Bluetooth controllers. Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can detect the gamepad.

Check Your Gamepad

Connect a controller, press any button and watch every supported input update live.

Connect or activate a controller

Connect a USB or Bluetooth gamepad, then press any controller button so your browser can detect it.

Connected controller

If more than one controller is detected, choose the controller you want to inspect from the connected-controller menu.

Stick deadzone

Adjust the deadzone to ignore small analogue-stick readings near the centre. The default live test starts at 12 percent.

Live controller input display

The controller diagram updates as buttons, triggers, sticks and directional controls are used.

Stick and Trigger Values

Review numerical readings for left-stick X and Y, right-stick X and Y, and the left and right analogue triggers.

All Detected Buttons

The raw input panel lists each button index exposed by the connected controller and shows the live value reported by the browser.

Controller Vibration Test

When supported by the controller, browser, connection and driver, send a short vibration command and adjust its strength.

Live controller metrics

Connection

Controller Input Stays in Your Browser

The test reads gamepad input only while this page is open. It does not require an account or send controller data anywhere.

How to Use the Gamepad Test

  1. Connect the controller by USB or Bluetooth.
  2. Press any controller button to activate browser detection.
  3. Press every button and check that it lights up.
  4. Move both sticks through their full range.
  5. Release the sticks and check that the drift reading remains near zero.
  6. Run the vibration test when supported.

How to Check for Stick Drift

Release both analogue sticks without touching them. Healthy sticks should remain close to zero, although tiny readings are normal.

Increase the deadzone control to ignore small movements. Repeated movement outside the deadzone may indicate stick drift, calibration trouble or wear inside the controller.

What the Online Gamepad Test Checks

The live controller tester separates each gamepad input into clear visual and numerical results so you can inspect buttons, sticks, triggers, directional controls and supported vibration without installing extra software.

Face buttons

Press the main A, B, X and Y-style controls and confirm that each button activates only while it is physically held.

Directional pad

Check up, down, left and right D-pad input for missed presses, stuck directions or unexpected simultaneous activation.

Analogue sticks

Move both sticks through their full range and review horizontal and vertical axis values, centre return and unwanted movement.

Triggers and shoulder buttons

Test digital shoulder buttons and confirm that analogue triggers rise smoothly from zero toward full input.

Stick-click and system buttons

Check L3, R3, Start, Back, Home and any additional raw button indexes exposed by the connected controller.

Controller vibration

Send a short haptic command at a chosen strength when the browser, driver, connection and controller expose vibration support.

Which Gamepads and Controllers Can Be Tested?

The test works with controllers exposed through the browser Gamepad API. Exact button labels, mapping and vibration support can differ by controller model, operating system, browser, driver and connection type.

Xbox-style controllers

Common Xbox and XInput-compatible controllers often use the standard browser mapping for face buttons, triggers, shoulder controls, sticks and D-pad input.

PlayStation-style controllers

Many DualShock and DualSense controllers can report buttons, sticks and triggers, although labels and vibration availability may vary between USB and Bluetooth.

Nintendo and third-party gamepads

Switch-style, retro and generic PC controllers may use custom mappings. Use the raw button grid to identify the exact indexes reported by the browser.

Wired and wireless connections

Both USB and Bluetooth controllers may work. A wired comparison can help identify pairing, battery, wireless interference or driver problems.

How to Read Analogue Stick Drift Results

Leave both sticks completely untouched and watch the four axis values. A centred stick should stay close to 0.000. Small fluctuations can be normal because analogue sensors rarely return a mathematically perfect zero.

Movement that repeatedly leaves the selected deadzone, changes direction by itself or grows over time can indicate wear, contamination, calibration trouble or a connection issue. Reset the maximum drift value before each comparison.

Deadzone, Range and Trigger Readings Explained

The deadzone ignores small stick readings near the centre. Increasing it can hide minor drift, but an excessively large deadzone reduces fine control in games. Compare the raw values before deciding which setting is suitable.

Stick axes normally move from about -1.000 to +1.000. Analogue triggers usually move from 0.00 when released toward 1.00 when fully pressed. Incomplete or uneven range can point to calibration, mapping or hardware wear.

When to Use a Gamepad Tester

A browser-based controller test provides a fast first check before changing game settings, reinstalling drivers, returning a controller or arranging a repair.

Before starting a game

Confirm that buttons, triggers, sticks and directional controls respond before changing in-game bindings or sensitivity.

After pairing or reconnecting

Check whether a USB or Bluetooth controller is detected correctly after pairing, changing ports or reconnecting.

When inputs feel inconsistent

Look for missed presses, stuck buttons, false movement, incomplete trigger travel or unexpected axis values.

Before buying, selling or returning

Test every available input and record repeatable faults before accepting, listing, exchanging or returning a controller.

Why Controller Results Can Differ by Browser

Browsers, operating systems and drivers do not expose every controller in exactly the same way. A controller may use standard mapping in one environment and custom button indexes in another.

Bluetooth and USB can also report different features. When results look unusual, compare a current browser, another connection type and the operating system's own controller settings.

What This Gamepad Test Cannot Confirm

The browser can show reported input values, but it cannot inspect internal switches, solder joints, battery health, wireless radio quality, firmware condition or every driver-level fault.

A controller can also pass a short test while still having an intermittent problem. Repeat the check and compare another game, browser, cable, port or computer when necessary.

What the Gamepad Results Mean

Each button should activate only when pressed. Triggers should move smoothly from zero to full input, and analogue sticks should travel evenly before returning near the centre.

Missing buttons, inputs that remain active, uneven stick movement or significant movement while untouched can indicate mapping, connection, calibration or hardware problems.

Controller Not Detected?

Try these checks before deciding that the controller is faulty.

Press a controller button

Browsers often detect a controller only after a physical button has been pressed.

Reconnect the controller

Unplug and reconnect USB controllers or disconnect and pair Bluetooth controllers again.

Close games and launchers

Another game, launcher or controller utility may be using or remapping the controller.

Try another browser or port

Test a current browser and another USB port to separate browser, port and controller issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this gamepad test free?

Yes. The controller tester is free and does not require an account or software installation.

Which controllers can I test?

You can test many USB and Bluetooth controllers recognised by your browser, including common Xbox-style, PlayStation-style and generic PC gamepads.

Why is my controller connected but not detected?

Press a controller button after opening the page. You can also reconnect it, close games or controller utilities and scan again.

What amount of stick drift is normal?

Very small readings near zero can be normal. Movement that repeatedly exceeds your chosen deadzone while the stick is untouched may indicate drift.

Why are the button numbers different?

Controllers can use different browser mappings. The raw button list shows the exact button index reported by your controller.

Why does the vibration test not work?

Vibration depends on controller hardware, browser support, connection type and driver support. Some compatible controllers expose no vibration control to the browser.

Does this gamepad test work with Xbox controllers?

Many wired and Bluetooth Xbox-style controllers work through the browser Gamepad API. Standard mapping and vibration support depend on the controller, operating system, browser and driver.

Can I test a PlayStation controller?

Many DualShock and DualSense controllers can report buttons, sticks and triggers. Button labels, touchpad features, motion controls and vibration may not all be exposed to the browser.

Can I test a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller?

A Switch Pro Controller or compatible third-party controller may work when the browser and operating system expose it through the Gamepad API. The reported mapping can differ from Xbox-style layouts.

What do axis values from -1 to +1 mean?

Stick axes usually report a signed value from approximately -1.000 at one edge through 0.000 at the centre to +1.000 at the opposite edge.

What should analogue trigger values show?

Analogue triggers commonly report about 0.00 when released and approach 1.00 when fully pressed. Some controllers expose triggers differently or treat them as digital buttons.

Can I test more than one controller?

Yes. When several controllers are detected, use the connected-controller menu to select the gamepad you want to inspect.

Does the test work over Bluetooth?

Many Bluetooth gamepads work, but mapping, latency and vibration support can differ from USB. Compare a wired connection if the Bluetooth result is inconsistent.

Are my controller inputs recorded or uploaded?

No. The tool reads live Gamepad API values while the page is open and displays them locally in your browser.
